The Kinneys made many trips to Glen Alpine Springs with their two young sons, Wendell and Roland. Their adventures in 1905 to 1907 were captured in a series of wonderful photographs taken by Arthur. He also wrote a number of poems expressing his feelings and love for the Glen Alpine springs area.

Arthur was originally from Maine, Hadassah, Illinois. He was President of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and she was a teacher.

There are plenty of mountains in the Desolation Wilderness, some with snow on top even in August.
Luncheon on Angora Lake
Notice the tea cups! This picnic was provided by the Glen Alpine Springs resort, including the guides, the horses and the box lunches.

There were (and still are) more than 55 points of interests -- lakes, streams and mountains -- within walking distance of the resort. It wasn't just the water from the springs that brought people to the resort, it was the beauty in which the resort resided.
With their walking sticks handy, this dapper group prepares to tackle the trails and enjoy the scenery. Can you believe this hiking attire in Summer, 1907?
